Kamawanu is the traditional Japanese sickle and wheel pattern, combined with the character "nu" to form "Kamawanu". This type of tenugui is said to have been worn by machiya (machi houses) during the Genroku period of the Edo period (1688-1704), and was later used as a stage costume by kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro VII (1791-1859). It was very popular among the public at that time.
